How to add birthday field to Accounts?

I'm in the life/health insurance biz. 99% of clients are single individuals so I just use an Account record and not Contact. I'd like to add a new date field called "account birthday" that I can use to sort on and maybe also search on... "list of all birthdays between 12-1-2008 and 12-30-2008" and export those records (I can do search and export with phpMyAdmin.)

How do I add the field to both the database and the account screen? And assuming I can do that will it get wiped out after the next Sugar upgrade/update 5.1.0b to 5.1.0c?

OK. Let me ask this. When I do the next update, will it get "wiped out"? Or will upgrades "respect" new database fields and screen-field additions?

All changes performed through Studio are upgrade safe, that means: it is saved when upgrading the system. So you may feel free to add new fields or customize the layout.

OK, one last item. Is it possible to put a new field in Leads that will be sent to Account when the conversion takes place? I assume one would have to add some code for the new field? It's not a big deal... just wondering. I'd like to put the field in Leads and have it "transport" to a field in Accounts (that I create) but it's not a big deal to re-enter it after the Convert.
