how to call javascript from closing popup, help

o so i have the assigned to field in a custom module, i need a javascript function to be called when someone changes the assigned name, i figured i could do this with the onchange event but onchange is not fired when a value is set by javascsript so i was wondering if i could call it from the popup when it closes, but i only want it to affect this module, any ideas?

i have found how to do this but it does require editing the defualt js files, if anyone needs to know how just ask.
