How to change dropdown field into multiselect?

Hi,
I am using the professional version 5.1. I'd like to change an existing field from dopdown to Multi Select. How is this possible?

Do I have to modify the database directly somewhere or is it possible from within sugarcrm?

Thanks for the link. However I'd like to change a field that was introduced by sugarcrn itself (using version PRO 5.1) How is that possible?
