How to Create Affiliations

Hi,

I'm trying to build a module and I'm a bit stumped. This is what I'd like to achieve.

Account1 is affilliated with Account2 via a predetermined relationship and that relationship has a staus.

For example:2
Account1 (CompanyX) is affiliated with (a media partner of) Account2 (CompanyY) and the relationship status is (current).

The affiliated definitions and status will be a drop down list. This is a many to many relationship.

Additionally, I'd like to setup a second case where:
Contact1 (PersonA) is affiliated with (a volunteer) Account1 (CompanyX) and the relationship status is (current). In the first case, the affiliations are the same, in the second case, the affiliations have to be different. For example, a company is not a volunteer of a person.

you may not need a new module for this ... look to repurposing the member of and reports to functions to build the relationships and use the extant status drop downs

I've started digging through files for the members_of and reports_to functions and have to admit, I'm kind of lost.

Is there any documentation or a post that you know of that explains what I'm trying to do? Experience wise, I'm a whopping 3 days into trying to customize and still trying to get the lay of the land.

With respect ... you should familiarise yourself with the application before you customise. There may be business functionality that covers the things that you need to do without building any new modules. You should at minimum read the user manual and understand how the sugar architecture works.

With regard to member of functions.

This allows you to build relationships between accounts and typically would be used to model a conglomerate and all it's subsidiaries (although there are many other uses for it)

The Reports to is to model corporate hierarchies and management structures although again, because it builds relationships between Contacts, it can be re purposed ... you can change the labels in Studio
