How do I report out of Sugar Open Source?

I am using Sugar Open Source Version 4.5.1e (Build 1049) and am brand new. We are a small company and this is our first attempt at an integrated CRM.

We've been working with it for about a month, and are currently defining SOPs to be followed and on the verge of releasing the system company wide.

Before we do that, I need to investigate the possibilities of getting the data out in report format. Particularly, I want to report time spent on project tasks, grouped by project. I have investigated the Export link, but am unhappy that I do not have control over what exports - like custom fields. I have been led to believe that even with the open source I would have the ability to report in many areas. What am I missing?

Hi lowJack01, sounds like you're well under way.

The Sugar Professional and Enterprise editions provide reporting capabilities (see Editions comparison). Sugar Open Source (now Community Edition) never provided reporting options. I'd be interested to know how you came to understand that it did.

Even so, there are reporting options on SugarForge of varying degrees of completeness available via community developers. SugarExchange reporting options, which represent more complete offerings, are also available.

To add on to Andy's comments, while the open source version does not have native reporting tools built-in, it is possible to generate reports based on the Sugar data using a variety of tools.

Some options are:

1. JasperReports
2. ZuckerRepors
3. CrystalReports
4. Excel

Some of these integrate directly with Sugar, while other don't. In any case, those are some of the various options I would look at.

Thank you both for your input. I will look into JasperReports and ZuckerReports. I am looking to avoid the desktop application paradigm that Excel represents, and would much prefer to put a non-edittable, web-based menu of reports in front of my management.
