Default how do module php files differ from initial php file ?

sugar42 was running perfectly for months on fc4
    after upgrade to fc5
    Fedora Core 5, php 5.1.2, ffx 1.5.0.1, MYSQL 5.0.18
when i click on contacts or any module, instead of opening contacts, or any module,
ffx tries to download the php file, opera opens a blank page, and ie opens a blank page
what is strange is that the INITIAL index.php page works fine
why should the module php pages be different ?
    what to do ?
    thx in advance
    cheers

that combination in FC5 (apache + php + mysql) and its out-of-the-box compilation is broken as far as Sugar is concerned.

The blank pages and the downloaded (and blank) index.php files are a symtom of Apache segfaulting - crashing with a memory corruption issue caused by the crap PHP that Redhat *insists* on shipping with it's product.

Do a search on "segfault" and you'll see that (beside Windows installs) the bulk of these issues is on FCx with default Apache and PHP.

    OK Chris,
We understand the issue. What's the fix?

I started checking the PHP /var/log and found that the problem was an out of memory situation - obviously, the fc5 / php install nuked the memory_limit in php.ini. With memory_limit set to 20m all is well
