Question How do supression lists work?

I have a marketing team who want to export a list of contacts and reimport them as targets, and then use them as a supression list.

Does the supression list functionality go off email address, or would we need to generate the target list from the contacts in order to suppress correctly?

    Hello,

there is no reason to export just to reimport into the system. This will just create duplicate people. The campaigns module functions based off email address, so all you need to do is create a suppression list based off of the Contacts module directly

The Targets and Target Lists are 2 separate items that are not necessarily related, even though they have similar names. Targets are people that don't qualify as leads or contacts (such as if you purchase a list of names). Target lists are groups of people for campaigns -- the Target List is a group of Contacts, Leads, Targets, and/or Users of the system.

    Make sense?

Yep, makes sense, however the marketing team have a list where they have 800, or so, targets (contacts) but only want to send to around 1/3 of them, and suppress the other 2/3rds until sometime in the future.

Other than manually going through 600 contacts and adding them to a suppression list, reimporting as targets is easier, as the targets can just be deleted after the compaign has been sent.

As Sugar doesn't have the ability to mass suppress targets easily, this is the most expedient way of achieving what we are looking at.

A bit of a 'sledgehammer to crack a nut' but workable we think.
