How do you do a partial search?

Does anybody know how you can make a partial search in SugarCRM?

For example: One of my contacts last names is: van der Sman

When I go to "Contacts" and fill in into the search "last name=Sman" then nothing is found.
However when I fill in into the search "last name=van der Sman" or "last name=van" then the name is found.

What I'm looking for is a method to search on the family name "sman" and find any contact with that in the last name.
