How does email connect to contacts?

How is an email address connected to your contacts in sugar? I am wondering for exporting purposes.

Well, I haven't used 5.5 yet, but if it's the same as 5.2, then all email addresses (for leads, contacts, everyone) get stored in the email addresses table. The individual email addresses are then related to specific records in the email_addr_bean_rel table. Hope that helps.

Do you have experience with email addresses in the email address table which are not related to the email_addr_bean_rel table? Are these addresses wrong records which can be deleted?
