HOw to filter list in the 'relate' field

Hi,

I have a relate field which list all the active opportunities in the select popup. But now i don't want all the active opportunities to appear in the list. because i want the opportunities to appear based on some conditions. Please advice me if anyone has an idea in giving additional filters to the list in the relate field.
