How to have field display differently based on criteria

I have been asked to see if there is a way to have a dropdown field display in a different color or with a different color if specific data is selected from the dropdown. For example, if an Account's account_type field is set to "Restricted", we want that field to get the attention of whoever is viewing the screen, by either showing in red, or with a red background, or even flashing. What would be the best way to do this?
