how long to pick up PhP, MySQL and Sugar

Dear developers:

For somebody with no software progamming background but a Masters in Finace and reasonable intelligence, how long does it take to pick up PhP and mySQL to the extent he can understand architecture of Sugar and audit and contribute to code work? The ambition is not to become a very good code developer but to be able to understand and evaluate developers' work, contribute some ideas and make sure developers' work is correct and upgrade safe.

is six months or 300 hours of study and practice good enough to reach that level?

Hi

In general it will take 1-2 weeks to learn the basics of PHP & MySql. But learning the sugar code architecture is not an easy deal for a newbie. If you work very hard you can learn it in 6 months. FYI - I am working in sugar around 2 yrs. Still i dont know the complete architecture . So it is purely depends on the learner's intelligence and previous work experience.
