Default how to make backup dierctory writable by SugarCRM

    HI All ,

I'mtrying to backup SugarCRM files but I always get the following

Backup directory does not exist, and could not be created.
Backup directory exists, but is not writable.

I accessed main server and shred both Sugar folder and backup folder but of no use , I would appreciate if Sugar experts provide me a procedure in how to take backup using Backups Wizard , or guide me through in a breif steps , thanks in advance

Is there is any option that I canmake the backup directory writable by sugar ???

Lets make it clear using these steps:

Suppose your sugar is installed at /var/www/html/MySugar folder
First cd to this dir and create one folder let say Backup and give permission to apache or webserver user or the same user who is the owner of MySugar

    $ chown apache:apache Backup

You can create the Backup folder outsite of the html/MySugar but then you have to give the ownership of this folder to apache/nobody .

Then enter this dir name in the Wizard
and enter backup file name with zip ext in the filename section
Proceed to confirm settings and onwards...

Your comment of sharing the folder and being fairly new to this, makes me suspect that you're running Sugar under a windows environment? Right?

The easiest way for you, would be to browse (using Windows Explorer {gui filebrowser}) to the folder in which contains the folder/directory of your SugarCRM deployment/installation (i.e. sugar451), and then right click on your sugar folder and choose 'Sent To'-'Compressed/Zipped Folder'.

Do note, that such, will NOT backup your sql database.. In your case, the easiest solution would be this: http://www.sugarforge.org/projects/databasebackup/

    Hi Chris,

As spy123 wants the sugar backup from the admin page and there is no option for browsing the dir
so dir must be in the same machine where sugar is installed and must be writable by the weberver.

I followed all these steps using putty.exe however still got the same problem. After doing $ chown user directory, I tried to do backup and it just gave me the same error message that the folder is not writable.

    Did i miss any step?
