    Default Re: How to set up inbound mail account via Gmail (SOLVED)

    Hi folks,

    Ubuntu LAMP server 6.06 amd64
    SugarCRM 5.0 Community Edition
    Apache2
    MySQL 5.0
    PHP5

    I solved my problem. The procedure is quite complicate. First the user must have a valid account on Gmail. The complete steps are as follow;

    1) Outbound mails (to send emails via Gmail)

    After login SugarCRM

    --> Emails --> Settings

    popup the "Settings" windown

    On "General" tab

    Preferences:
    Check for New Mail: [Manually]
    Send Email as Plain Text: [check]
    Character Set: [ISO-8859-1 (Western European and US)]
    Copy to Sent Email: [check]
    Signatures: --None--

    Visual Settings
    Layout Stype [.] 2 rows
    Number of Emails per Page: [20]

    Others - blank

    --> Save --> OK

    Click "Mail Accounts" tab

    Outgoing Mail Server, click [Add] to start "Outbound Mail Server" window

    Click [Set Gmail Defaults]

    Name - abc (your name)
    SMTP Server - smtp.gmail.com
    SMTP Port - 465
    Use SMTP Authentication? [check]
    SMTP Username [abc@gmail.com] (your full email address)
    SMTP Password [*********] (your password to login Gmail)

    others blank

    --> Save

    2) Inbound mails (to receive emails on Gmail)

    Continue on above

    Name: abc (your name)
    From Name: abc (as example only. You can choose your name)
    From Address: [abc@gmail.com] (your full email address on Gmail OR any email address you expect the recipient to reply)
    User Name: [abc@gmail.com] (you full email address on Gmail)
    Password: (your login password on Gmail)
    Mail Server Address: [imap.gmail.com]
    Mail Server Protocol: [IMAP]
    Mail Server Port: [143]
    Use SSL: [check]

    --> Save --> Close

    Remark: you can click [Test Settings] to check. But you must be patient enough to wait.

    Restart SugarCRM to take effect. (This step is import)

    The abovementioned only finishes half part of the configuration. "Receive emails" still can't work on SugarCRM. You have to setup "Port Forwarding" on Gmail.

    On browser "Sign in" your Gmail account.

    --> My Account --> Gmail --> Settings --> "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"

    Forwarding:
    [check] Forward a copy of incoming mail to [abc@example.com] and [keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox]

    POP Download:
    2. When messages are accessed with POP [keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox]

    IMAP Access:
    [check] Enable IMAP

    --> Save Changes

    Now you finish the 2nd part (second half) of the configuration. SugarCRM can now send/receive emails via your Gmail account.

    Hope this procedure can help folks who are in need. I suppose piping to Yahoo mail will be more or less the same.

    Thanks.

    If you use Windows (XP, 2003, ...) as the platform to install Apache/MySQL and SugarCRM, please notice that PHP has a bug with IMAP SSL as described at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=36496. It may affect any SugarCRM version that install on Windows with PHP version before 20070219. I used ApacheFriends.Org XAMPP 1.6.0a which has PHP version 5.2.1.1 built at 20070209, when connect to GMail IMAP that always get "invalid remote
    specification".
