    Default How SugarCRM Works...

I just have a couple of quick questions about SugarCRM, please keep in mind that I have never used a web-based software such as this.

    1. I hear everywhere that SugarCRM is open source. However, I am seeing prices on the website. What are the main differences between the free and paid version of the software?

    2. I want to use SugarCRM to give "back offices" to several independent contractors that work for us. In the demo I see that there are different demos for sales, marketing, support, and administration. Would it be possible to give them accounts that have all features except for the features that would be reserved for the script administator or do you have to add them to one of those departments?

    3. Can the user accounts be completely separate from each other or will the independent contractors be able to see the different work that each other are doing?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and have a great day!

    -Chase

    Hello,

    1. I hear everywhere that SugarCRM is open source. However, I am seeing prices on the website. What are the main differences between the free and paid version of the software?
    > Yes, SugarCRM is available for free version Community Edition, which has many basic and useful modules. The priced versions are Professional and Enterprise version, which have many extensions like, Invoices, Reports, Workflow and oracle support(Enterprise version only). For more details check this.

    2. I want to use SugarCRM to give "back offices" to several independent contractors that work for us. Would it be possible to give them accounts that have all features except for the features that would be reserved for the script administator or do you have to add them to one of those departments?
Yes, community version too has Accounts module. To manage access to any of the modules, you can create a Role and manage the access to that module for any of the user.

    3. Can the user accounts be completely separate from each other or will the independent contractors be able to see the different work that each other are doing?
Again you can manage the access to specific records via Role management. You can create a Role which will allow user to see records which are only assigned to them or they are the owner(creator) of the accounts.
    Thumbs up.

One point to add: There is a difference between the community edition and professional edition regarding that point. In the Pro edition it is possible to set the access rights for each field of a module, in CE only for all fields together.
