Default HOWTO: get informed when contract is

Does anyone know how to accomplish the following?

I want to enter in my Sugar system that a customer has signed a contract. I use the contract module for this right now.
The contract lasts for a certain period.
A few weeks before the contract expires I want to be notified that I should contact the account.

How would you implement this in the system? Should I create a task or call when I create the contract? A task or call which starts a few weeks before the contract expires?
Or is there a better way to implement this?

In the beginning I thought I could use the field "Expiration Notice" in combination with an alert. Sugar guys however told me that it is not possible to get an alert when a certain date is passed.

    Any help is highly apreciated!

    Hey basby,

kbrill just released a plugin called Workflow Plugin - Expired Date on sugarforge.org: http://www.sugarforge.org/projects/expdatewpi

    From the news item:
I have finished a new workflow plugin that allows you to trigger an action after a date has expired. You may also set it to trigger several days before the date expiries. It is still in beta at the moment and bug reports are appreciated.

It isn't working for me yet, I found some bugs. I will post these bugs somewhere else.

    Thanks again!

There was a news item posted on the SugarForge front page. I saw it about the time that I saw your post. Good timing I guess!

I frankly find this hard to beleive. How many people out there have yearly support contracts with customers that expire and would like to send reminders, set up a calls, run email campaigns or whatnot to renew?

This is the kind of thing CRM packages DO!

I am new to Sugar, but if this holds true, I may have to go away soon. What other basic CRM things does it NOT do?Someone please tell me it isn't true

I've seen several related posts to this but no definitive answer. I have the cron set up, and have run it manually with little to no output (errors or otherwise) I believe this should work _IF_ I knew the proper Scheduler to set up. Any help would be appreciated. I don't think at this point a plugin should be needed as all functionality appears to be built in.

    Thanks

    /sm
