IMAP folders in email client

I've been working on getting 5.5CE up and running and have configured a few users to use Sugar Email. I'm a bit confused about the 'External Email' settings. I was wanting to use the web client instead of Outlook but it seems that it is not possible to create IMAP folders. Is it possible?

IMAP folders can't be created they can just be displayed. When you enter your email account click the inbox button and select as many folders as you want from the pop up window by holding the ctrl key.

I'm getting connections problems with IMAP/SSL and Gmail accounts on SugarCRM.

Other (non-ssl) accounts work fine, I can get the folders, etc.
But on Gmail nothing. The popup (for testing the connection) stays loading for ages and I can't navigate on SugarCRM for 5-10 minutes. I need to close the browser, open, and then it works, but the inbound mails... nothing.

Any clue?
I'm using the last SugarCRM version (5.5 I guess) and on a VPS/cPanel/Linux.
