Import case data

We've been using a hosted Sugar and are converting to an inhouse CE (5.5.2).
We want to import existing cases including case number but can't get the number to map into the new database.
Other case data is imported but cases are renumbered from one - not the original numbers!!

We have successfully imported accounts and linked contacts.

Can anybody help with this?

I believe you need to truncate the cases table at new database, export the cases table on old database and import into new one.
