    Default Import error help

I am trying to import a list of contacts in csv format. Sugar keeps telling me that over half of them have a bad email address and did not import them. I know the emails are good. I have tried single comma, double comma but nothing seems to help. How do I get past this. Here is an example of there message "Invalid Email address","LBL_EMAIL_ADDRESS (email1)",toddcoury@andrewskurth.com . The A is not part of the email, I am not sure what it means

    Hello,

for the example you gave, the message is displaying  as part of the email address. What is this? This might be what is causing the error

    WALSTIB,

It sounds like your csv does not have the fields enclosed in quotes and or has extra blanks. Blank spaces can wreak havoc in a csv file. Make sure your csv file has every field enclosed in quotes and only a single comma between quotes separating fields with no extra spaces.

    e.g.

    "My First Name","MyEmail@MyDomain.com"

    Not
    My First Name, MyEmail@MyDomain.com

This was an .xls file that i resaved as a .csv file. None of the fields have any quotation marks on them. Do I need to go thru all 38,000 records and add it?

In Excel you can control the delimiters in the export screens.

I would go back to the Excel file and re-export, watching the options carefully. Just do a Save As, select text files and carefully choose all the options in the export screens.

Also, one caveat... I don't know exactly how Sugar handles csv files, so I'm not certain this is the problem. So I definitely would not manually handle 38,000 records. But I have seen any number of odd behaviors in other apps from delimiter problems.

PS. I would create a short test import file with 2 or 3 records and try to reproduce the failure, then see if adding quotes fixes it.
