What is the deal with, import for contacts and accounts?

I have 1,500 contacts, I want to import and it gets to about 150 then dies. Some contain ' in the last name and address. Why can't it skip the ones it doesn't like and move on? I tried dudes ' hack but that doesn't work either.

I got it done but it took 4 hours.

Second, why can't I import the parent company info into accounts? I have tried on import and the select box option neither one works? I tried to repair relationships, rebuild, etc. still no luck.
