    Default Imported Targets' "source"

    Hello,

I am wondering how people keep track of where imported Targets come from. I mean in a sort of "lead source" sense, but before they're leads. For example, some targets may come from a 3rd party list, some may be from a partner, etc. I can't seem to find a way to track that short of custom fields.

My question is do people track that? Am I missing a valid reason why I shouldn't care where the targets come from? Or am I missing an obvious place to do so? I don't see value in having different prospect lists, that just seems harder to manage. My understanding of the target lists is as a way to manage which campaigns targets are in, not where the targets came from. But I could certainly be understanding that wrong...

    I'd appreciate any thoughts/guidance!

    Sincerely,
    Jon

I think this is not generally done because Targets are usually mass mailing list that were purchased and people use whatever demographic data that came with it to select individual targets for a particular campaign. You certainly could do what you want with a custom field so you could use the actual source of the target as another selection criteria.
