Default Inbound Email Attachment problem (IMAP)

I'm just wondering whether if someone can help me with a problem I've been living with for a few months, but now the users are getting upset.

We use Sugar as a central repository for Support emails, they get pulled into the Group Inbox and then assigned a case for people to deal with. Now, the cron job works and pulls email from an IMAP mailbox into Group Inbox, but no attachments are included, even if you press the 'Check Mail' button, the mail comes through, but without the attachments.

Can anyone give me any pointers as to why this might not work? Sending mail from within Sugar including attachments is fine... but receiving them doesn't work.

Any help is greatly appreciated... it's driving me mad! My setup is:

    OS: CentOS 4.3
    Sugar: 4.2.0d
    Webserver: Apache/2.0.58
    PHP: 4.4.2
    MySQL: 4.1.12

Does anybody think that upgrading my PHP version to 5.x would fix the problem? Presumably it's not a coding problem, else nobody would be able to retrieve emails with attachments... and I'm guessing that other people can???

Hoping that a little bump will help ;-)
