Inbound email creates notes automatically

Every time we get an inbound email that has some sort of an image, say a .gif or .jpg or .pdf etc;
SugarCRM creates out of those images a note automatically.

So for instance if we get 100 inbound emails and each one has 2 .gif then we end up
with 200 notes and 100 emails !!!

How can we stop this behaviour?
We would like to have only 100 emails each with it's own .gif ; we don't want notes to be created
automatically.
we are using 4.5.1a

I don't think there is a way of stopping this behavior, at least without digging into the source.
