Incoming Email Schedule stuck "In Progress"

Currently trying to setup my incoming email schedule. Here is what I know:

1) I run 6.0.3 on a dedicated server and have cron running this job.
2) The test connection in the webrowser for the email settings work
3) The status for the incoming email job reports "In Progress" for an hour. Then the next hour starts and it switches to "Failed" and the new job then says "In Progress".

4) I changed the debug log to spit out everything, and when the cron job runs i dont see any errors.
5) My max execution time is set to 600

Any ideas?

I found out this problem only happeneds when using IMAP ... it does NOT happen when using gmail ... i can't use gmail for company mail though...

any ideas? anyone?
