install directory

Is it OK to remove it after you install?
Is it needed or checked at all during upgrades?
I'm trying to remove all the un-necessary files from the builds.

I'm pretty sure you can remove install directory. I quickly checked php files and found that only install.php references to files in install dir. You can probably remove install.php as well.
