Limit assignees

I'm looking for a way to limit the USERs that can receive assignments. I have numerous USERs in a call center, and when they open a CASE, or any other type of action that can be assigned to someone, I would like to restrict the available assignees to a certain group.

Right now I am trying to hack in a custom WHERE clause to the USERs popup picker, but it's getting ugly here.

There is no easy way to do this. You have to modify the code as far as I know.

I did this on a 3.5 system some time back and the only way I could do it was to modify the code in a manner similar to your approach. If memory serves me, my situation was a little less complicated in that I was more concerned with getting it to default to a specific user every time.
