Limiting account access for users

I am sure this is covered somewhere, so apologies in advance for trying to get a shortcut here. I've got so much to learn (developement is not how I make my living) and implement that I am hopeful that someone can get me pointed in the right direction.

I have started importing some contacts, and I added a contact field called that lets me name where the contact came from (origin field). I'd like to create some users, and then have it work so that they can only see contacts that came from certain origins.

is this possible and hopefully easy?
