Post Limiting Account Access within Account Module

I'm a very new administrator/user that still needs to understand much more about Sugar. Below are the specs on our Sugar system that I don't totally understand, but got from our IT guy.

SugarCE-5.0.0e; Community Edition; Linux, Fedora Core 9, Kernel Version: 2.6.25.9-76.fc9.i686; php 5.2.6; mysql 5.0.51b; Apache 2.2.8

My dilemma is: I know I can limit user access to a specific module by hiding the ones I don’t want the user to see. But if I limit access to all modules EXCEPT the Account module where there are numerous accounts listed, is it also possible to limit access to just the account I want the specific user to see?

Looking for any help I can get. I'm sure there will be more questions after this one.

    Thanks.

Yes, it is possible to do that.

If you notice, entries within the database have an assigned user. That user is the owner of the database entry and can be combined with security roles to restrict actions that can be taken on an entry.

For example, I can assign an account to the user "Angel" and then add the user "Angel" to a role that allows "Angel" to only see/edit/del records that they own.

Thanks much. I appreciate the help.

I have also noticed when I hide the tabs at the top, it also hides the quick link for that tab at the side. Is there a way to eliminate the tab at the top and keep the quick link so that the user would be able to add accounts, leads, etc., but would only see their home page information and not the aggregated list?

You can try hiding the tab from view as opposed to eliminating access to it. That might do it, but I don't know offhand.

I tried, but hiding it eliminates it also. Thanks again.

I was able to limit access to just the entries posted through the user and role functions. Thanks. If anyone else is having these problems and would like to know exactly how to do it, I"ll be glad to walk them through.

    Thanks.

In the user admin pane I see the list of modules and access when NOT in edit mode. When I attempt to edit the user no section shows were I can restrict access to user.

Where do I get to this? I do not want users to see accounts that are not assigned to them. How do I update the user prefs for what they can and can not see?

    Thanks,

Ha! Look a little farther back. Ok, I just set the roles up in Role management module and then assign the user a role as needed. Too Easy!

I now have an issue with a custom module that I have loaded. It users can not use the module and a message: "You do not have access to this area. Contact your site administrator to obtain access."

When I attempt to add access to this module in roles management it is not available. How do I grant access to this new module?

    SugarCE 5.2.0f

    Thanks,
    STU
