    Question Link to system directory?

I am testing out SugarCRM and I may have a need to have a link from each Opportunity to an Opportunity directory stored on a file server. It would be ran in a Terminal Server environment so the links can be to the local directory.

Where can I save a link such as this so users can just click and it will open the folder?

In each Opportunity details under Description if I paste a URL it automatically converts it to a link. This would be perfect if I can do this to a local Windows directory.

eg. In the Opportunity Description field:

    http://demo.sugarcrm.com (works)
    C:\test\directory (Does not work)
    \\myserver\test (Does not work)

Anyone know if the second or third links are possible from within an Opportunity record?

    Hi Jeff

You need to create an alias into your web service which points that folder into a virtual folder and use this virtual folder as the address.

Will this open up the folder in Windows explorer or just show the files via a web browser?

I am trying to get the Windows explorer to open up so users can manipulate files.

    Hi Jeff

Keep in mind the SugarCRM will run under a server, a remote machine, not into user machine.
We had developed a feature which enable user to create a folder structure under a specific record and store into it some files.
Ping me on skype if you would like to know more about that.

I am trying to determine the best way to handle files associated with Opportunities. Ideally I would like to store documents within SugarCRM however I have discovered an issue when trying to email those documents.

I can reference my other forum posting outline the issue:

    Solved.

You can link to the local drive using the following syntax:
    file://

Therefore file://\\myserver\data and file://c:\data can open either a local file or directory.

Great! I was thinking of the same solution as I was reading down the thread. I didnt know that you can also access a shared folder via file://\\servername.

There's a Firefox add in called IE Tab that does the trick. It gives you the option to right-click and open the link in Explorer.
