    Thumbs up Linking Accounts

    Hello.

I hope I have this in the right forum.

Anyway, I need some help. I've been trying to set up a linking structure among Accounts. Our implementation needs this specific tidbit of functionality - we need to link accounts with one another and add a specific relationship between them. For example, I need to link account A with account B, and specify that account B provides internet services for account A.

Of course, more than one relationship may exist, ie, this is not a 1-to-1 relationship. I tried to modify the Member Organizations subpanel in order to achieve this, but I cannot fully edit it, and the Member Organizations subpanel only lets me create an Account, not link to an existing one. I just need to link two accounts and provide a description of the relation.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hi there, not sure if I understand you correctly but there is a field called Member of on the Accoutns Module.
If you set that, you're setting the relationship with another account.

    Thumbs up Re: Linking Accounts

Yes, I was looking at that, and while it is close to what we need, it's not exactly what we need.

You see, we need to link accounts on a many-to-many basis. The Member Of field allows a 1 to 1 or Many to 1 relationship.

Let me give you a better example. Let's say that in my list of accounts, I have an ISP X and a phone company Y. I need to specify relations where I can say that "X provides internet services for account A" and "Y provides phone services for account A". However, X and Y are not limited to only providing services for A, they can also provide services for other companies.

Furthermore, Member of only allows me to link to one other account, so through it, I would only be able to link to X or Y, but not to both of them - and I need to be able to link to both, if I have to.

Am I a bit clearer now, or is it even more confusing?

I'm loving SugarCRM, and any help is really appreciated.

It sounds like you you need to add another panel to the bottom of accounts that records the relationships.
I understand what you are saying but I don't know how to do this off hand, so I can't help you any further.

    Sorry.

    Hi zS,

Just to simply the business plan that you want to approach through this functionality. Before going for further customization, you can enter the details of the ISP X and phone company Y in the Contacts. This way you can have many-to-many relationship.

Once you have entered the X and Y then you can relate them to many Accounts within. It will also help you to see the Accounts associated with X and Y respectively.

    Hope this helps.

    Rgards,
