listview will not display row if name is blank?

I've noticed that listview will not display row if name field is blank - where would I modify this (the module is associative and defined by two fields, not name).

I guess I could add a logic hook to populate a bogus value to name before save but I'm struggling with this.

Never mind ... the list view is now not showing data at all (with or without a name) even though it exists in the db and can be viewed in a subpanel ... it is a custom module that is the child of another custom module.

More Info ... it is looking for the field 'name' in the parent module ... the parent is based on the person template and so has no 'name field'
