Login form disappeared, no upgrade done.

Hi

My CRM worked fine until this morning, and on trying to login again I have a home page without the login form. No upgrade was conducted neither in SugarCRM nor on the hosting server.

The sugarcrm.log file reads

Mon Jan 16 15:59:07 2012 [20843][-none-][FATAL] Configuration variable date.timezone is not set, guessed timezone Europe/Berlin. Please set date.timezone="Europe/Berlin" in php.ini!

but it seems it worked before with that.

The server (Apache) log reads

[Mon Jan 16 10:40:05 2012] [error] [client 1.2.3.4.5.6] PHP Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "modules/Users/login.tpl" in /var/www/vhosts/mysite.net/httpdocs/include/Smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1095
[Mon Jan 16 10:40:06 2012] [error] [client 1.2.3.4.5.6] File does not exist: /var/www/vhosts/mysite.net/httpdocs/modules/Users/login.css, referer: http://mysite-here.org/index.php?act...n_action=index
[Mon Jan 16 10:40:06 2012] [error] [client 1.2.3.4.5.6] File does not exist: /var/www/vhosts/mysite.net/httpdocs/modules/Users/login.js, referer: http://mysite-here.org/index.php?act...n_action=index

So I'm at a loss to understand how this occurred and what to do to fix it and make sure it doesn't happen again...

Did you have a look into modules/Users directory? Are the files mentioned in server log available in that directory? They should be there and have proper file permissions.

yeah, these are the errors that matter, it can't load these files. Either they are gone or you have permissions issues.

Thanks for your replies. It turned out some files were indeed missing, along with many others.
We ended up getting the site back online by restoring the whole backup from the previous night, but unfortunately did not learn much from this as we cannot know whether that was a sugarcrm issue, a server issue, or even a security issue that would have lead to *some* files being deleted; no matter how strange.
