Mass Update of Leads or Contacts

How can I perform a mass update of my leads data? For example I have several hundered people as leads but I periodically need to update contact info that I collect during events and so on. These updates come to me as CSV files so we use the import feature. When I do an import, I select create and update and it will create an individual if they are not already listed but when it hits an existing contact it will classify it as a dub and skip over the contact instead of updating any new information such as phone number or a custom field that we have mapped.

We are using 5.1 b. Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Can someone please assist!!! I am new to sugar looking to convert from Salesforce and this is a major issue as we cannot mass update our leads and contacts and we do not want to create dups for obvious reasons.

to update i have noticed that you need the ID number from sugar in your csv or else it will duplicate the entry.

Thank you for the response. I have noticed that if I setup a qualifier it does not duplicate which is part of the problem. If it finds a match I do not want it to duplicate I NEED it to update the data if it is different in the CSV file hince the create/update option. I can't get it to update. Do you have any advice?

well i havnt tried this with leads because we dont use them.

but using the ID from sugar will actually update the contact im guessing because thats what sugar references.

so if no ID it adds them
if ID is present then update

what qualifier are you using?

Are you using the 'Create and Update Records' function?
