Hi everyone,

My organization is using Sugar primarily to manage Contacts and Accounts. We are currently using custom fields to tag Contacts appropriately for various mailing lists we often need to export.

For example we have a custom field called "Program A" and in that custom text field a user might tag the Contact to be exported for a particular event corresponding to that program, let's call it " Big Event 2007". This allows us to search for all Contacts to be invited to "Big Event 2007" -- we can export this list to do a mailing to those invited to the event OR we can export this list next year to see who we invited the previous year. This works perfectly.

However, what isn't working quite so well is going back to this list and tagging it for something else. Say the next year rolls around and we want to invite all Contacts tagged "Big Event 2007" to a new event and thus would like to tag them "Big Event 2008".

Right now, this would have to be done by hand. I've checked out many threads on Mass Update and it seems it doesn't work on text fields without a whole lot of tweaking of the code (understandably so, as you probably wouldn't want to mass update "First Name" by mistake).

So my question is: is there a better way to tag Contacts than the method I've described above? I'd really like to continue using Sugar since we have a great deal of data already in the db but my users are getting very frustrated (again, understandably) by not being able to automate this process.

Thanks in advance!

J
