Default Migrating SugarCRM from one machine to another

    Hi Folks,

I would like to hear your suggestions upon migrating from one server to another.

I've tried to run SugarCRM on a hosting server and, as it seems, that doesn't seem to work out.

So I went ahead and installed my own server.

Now my problem is, that I've got tons of data in the old one which I want to migrate (lossless) to the new sugar.

Here the Data of both machines:

    OLD MACHINE:
    -------------------------------------------------------------
    Sugar Version 4.5.1 (a)
    Sugar Edition open source
    Category Data migration
Operating System unknown; most likely linux
PHP Version unknown. Machine does not show
    Database MySQL 5.X
    Web Server Apache

    NEW MACHINE
    -------------------------------------------------------------
    Sugar Version 4.5.1 b
    Sugar Edition Open source
    Category Data migration
    Operating System Windows 2000 Server
PHP Version out of the newest stack which was available
Database MySQL (pre installed by stack)
Web Server Apache (pre installed by stack)

Would be nice to hear some thoughts. My thoughts where just to push the DB over from old to new but, as I've read in the forums, that will defilitly not work out so a little hand would be really nice.

    All the best

    Lars

I would look at using the Sugar CRM Appliance Server instead of the Windows 2000 server, but that may be my biased view.

I recently moved from a Windows XP box to a new Sugar CRM Appliance Server. It seemed to go very well. I just moved over all of the files via FTP, made some configuration changes, permission changes, etc. and then moved the SQL over using a MySQL dump (phpMyAdmin, MySQL Administrator). It seems to have worked without problem.

I did take a detailed look at the php.ini and my.cnf files. I run the MySQL server with a huge cache for added performance. Sugar CRM's config file only required a few changes, nothing big.

    Hi Jeff,

thanks for the advice there. I think I'm going to try to move the DB into the "newer" version, hoping that there where no changes made to the DB-structure. I think that'll be the best first step to take

All the best and thanks again
