Modify column sorter js

Hi,

Can I modify the javascript that is behind Display Columns up and down column sorter under Advanced Search on my custom module?

It always gets me an error: 'selected' is null or not an object
and it's not even working in IE though it works in Firefox.

Any suggestions where I can manipulate the said Display column sorter?
