    Default Multiple SugarCRM Instances

I am using SugarCRM CE 5.5 and we have our main company CRM solution built through this and accessed through our web hosting provider. I am wondering if I can install another instance of SugarCRM on the web server and have it run through the same database as this one but not use the same data. Is this possible or will this just automatically make that data import into my new instance as well? Any help would be appreciated. What I am trying to do is set up 2 more company CRM systems that we are using internally but are completely different layouts and fields.
    Thanks!

You can definitely set them up using the same database server but with separate databases. That would be clean. You should be able to also have all 3 sugar directories point to the same database if you want. Not exactly sure why the data shouldn't be shared within the same company but I'm sure you have your reasons.

I have a similar situation with a customer.

They have two separate businesses (owned by the same corporate entity).

I had originally thought we could create separate layouts for the two companies but I can't see how we can do this, so it would seem the only option is to run two different installs.

Here's my question - Is this scenario possible?

    1. we add all the required fields into the system in install A - the layouts in this install would suit the users for company A

    2. We create install B - we then modify the layouts to suit the fields that the users for company B need

    3. Any records that either users add (i.e. via install A or install B) all go into the one database.

Can anyone confirm that my thinking is correct?

If you really, really want to go with one install my SecuritySuite module has the ability to define different layouts for different teams (businesses in your case). It's the only solution that I know of that allows this. I highly advise against this though unless there is a very good reason to do so which it sounds like there is in your case.

Is it possible to have a CE instance connect to the same database that my Enterprise instance is using so the CE instance can see the same data and work with it?

I'm pretty sure that's against the license but then again I don't have it in front of me right now.

That is my understanding as well. I am going to use APIs I guess to have the CE cloud sync with the Enterprise cloud. More work, but same result in the end I guess.

Do you know by chance if it is possible to deploy the leads module and opportunities module to the user portal???? I'll go search for that now I guess....may be a solution for me.
