    Arrow My SQL - Port

    Hi-

I have just downloaded Sugar CRM 4. During the setup, it asks what my password is in SQL (I think I got that right) and "Please enter the port that the bundled MySQL database will use?" and suggests 3306. The response I get is "Unable to bind to the given port number. Please select another one". I have no clue what to insert. Can anyone please help. Thanks, Russ.

    Hi,

What operating system are you using - windows XP, 2003, Linux etc?

What did you download in terms of sugar, database server software, what web-server did you install? It might be you used a packaged installation that included all of the above, it which case, which one (eg. bitrock)?

Port number refers to the TCP/IP network port (not the serial port as referred to in you other post). By default, the MySQL database server uses 3306. This can be one the same server as the web-server running sugar or on a separate machine.

Without more details it's going to be very hard to help.

    Thanks

    Steve:
Thanks so much for your reply. Please understand that i am a neophyte at this so I may not be able to answer all your questions as well as needed. However, I will do my best.

    I operate on XP Professional.

I don't know if it is significant but I have MSSQL on my computer, but is is not active.

I believe i may have done two downloads, one recently and one some time ago. I don't remember what i downloaded earlier, but I seem to remember I was unable to download one of the programs. Yesterday i downloaded the "Full Installation package sugar 4.2.1. Latest". Whether I have used Bitrock or not I do not recall but it is available on my computer (see below)

I checked to see what software I had on my computer: This is what i found.

    I have "SugarCR-Bitrock-4.3.1A Windo-003EEC29.pf" located in "c:\Windows\Prefetch"

There are no files with Apache in the name

There are 50 IIS files, but none that seem to relate to Sugar or PHP. They all have suffixes such as htm, some exe, log, chm, dll, sys and gif.

There are 1453 files that relate to "php". There are two folders among them, "phpmailer" and "log.4php", both of which are located in "C:\program files\SugarSuite\SugarSuite-Ful-4.2.1b\include". Also among the files is a "sugar_version.php.

I don't know if I have answered your questions, but hopefully this will give you something to work on..

Thanks for your help -- as you can see I really confused.

    Russ

I had a similar problem with most of my port settings, so I alterered them slightly and carried on - not sure if this has any implications, but the system works fine and I can access it across my WIFI network

Only bug bear is I cannot access it over the internet from another WIFI connection

Dont know if anyone can shed some light on if this is to do with my port settings - if so, double check before you do as I did and change them.

It seems you had a previous installation of MySQL already present in the machine (maybe the version of sugarcrm you remember installing earlier?) Just enter a different port number, such as 3307

    Also, f you go to

Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs

Do you see several versions of BitRock or SpikeSource stacks installed?

    MSSQL should not matter.

I would go with the suggestion - go to add/remove programs and remove any sugar/bitrock/spikesourse programs and start from scratch. If you have installed mysql and apache separately, I would remove that too (unless you are using that for something else).

There are two ways to install sugar.

The first is to download the parts separately, mysql, webserver (apache or iis), php and sugar source files. This is more complicated so I suggest using one of the pre-packaged installers. Bitrock or spikesource.

If you go with one of these, please refer to all documentation and forums on their websites too as they may have some specifics. I'm afraid I've no experience with these but there will be a number here who have.

Check if you have the built-in firewall active (in the Network settings), and try disabling it to see if the MySQL connection works. Keep it disabled as short as possible if you're directly connected to internet (or better disconnect from Internet before disabling). If the built-in firewall is already disabled, see if you have other firewall software up and running on your machine.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and help.

I remove MySQL from my system and then downloaded the combination package (Sugar, PHP, MySQL, Apache). Everything went well until I got to Step 3 (Database Configuration) They say to use the defaults (localhost, sugarcrm and sugarcrm for host name, database anme and database username). I get an error 1045 message. I tried several variations for the database name and username without success.I looked it up on the forum, but could not seem to get an answer.

Can any of you out there help on this.

    Thanks, russ

    Steve;

    Thanks for your patience.

Here are the error messages I have received, using the default values that I outlined in my last Post.

"SugarCRM database user name and/or password is invalid (Error 1045: Access denied for user 'sugarcrm'@'localhost' (using password: NO)).
Database admin user name and/or password is invalid (Error 1045: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO))".

Actually, perhaps because I have tried to do this so often, things don't seem to change as i would have expected. For example, when I first did it a couple of days ago, I am certain the second error message said "sugarCRM instead of "root". At some point I asked it to create a new database and user (see below) and since then the privilege data base notice comes up with "roots" as the default

I get the same message if I insert a pasword (the same one I used earlier when setting up the programs) except that the first error message says "YES" instead of "NO".

If I check off "Create Database" and "Create User", boxes, up comes a Privilege User database user request with the default "root". and asking for a password. If I insert a password (the same as above), I get the following error message:

"Passwords for SugarCRM do not match"

If you can help, I'd surely appreciate it. I cannot believe everyone has this much trouble loading the program or it would never be so popular. What have I done wrong? Again thanks for your patience and your help,

    Russ
