I should know better, especially on a Friday, but I decided to do some work on our Sugar install today. I created some new custom fields in Studio that will help us track a few things.
All of the work has been done in the "Opportunities" module. I created the fields, then edited the "Detailview" and "Editview" layouts to get the desired layout. So far so good. Double checked that everything was in the right place. Saved and published. So far, so good - everything lines up nicely and seems to work. I create a test opportunity to try it out. Even my tab order was great...but then the wheels fell off. None of the new custom fields were working. When I saved the
opportunity my edits did not display in the "Detailview". Opening it up again, I can see that they were not saved to the database. Strangely, most of the original fields and old custom fields were working...but a couple of the old custom fields were not. I play around some more to see if I can get it working...but alas, no luck.
Remember, this is the latest version of Sugar - 4.5.1.x...we've been using Sugar for 2+ years and had working custom fields throughout the whole time.
Ok, I think...there is a problem, but I can always restore the previous versions using the "History" tracker in Studio. There - no problem! I restore the previous versions of the editview and detailview. The layouts look exactly the same as they did this morning. I try to edit the "Test" opportunity, and am disappointed to find that, while it looks the same as before,
some of the custom fields still aren't working (these are old customs - not new ones). I think, maybe I can use the "repair custom fields" option. Nope! Now all of my custom data for all my opportunities is GONE.
Is it just me? Was there something obviously wrong with how I went about things? This seems like a pretty drastic example...I lost my formatting, the fields didn't work, I lost my originals, and my DATA.
