    Edit /etc/php4/apache2/php.ini and add the following two lines

    extension=mysql.so
    extension=gd2.so

    Thats all

    I am getting the same error on a Win2k server during initial setup. I can't get past the first config screen on a new install as I get a red notation - Mysql Database - not found
    Do I need to edit the php.ini file?

    I found the answer to this, you need to turn on the extension in php.ini, remove the ; in front of php_mysql.dll and everything will work fine.

    It's obvious to enable the php-mysql extension to make php communicate to mysql.
