Need help creating Groups/Assigning Contacts to Groups

Hi everyone! I am new to Sugar as of today.

I have entered 104 contacts into Sugar and now I would like to separate them into groups. I have tried 2 things:

1. I created a Group by going to the Groups tab at the top of the screen and creating a new one. I then went into an individual contact profile and set them to a group. I went back to group tabs and I see no contact?!

2. I imported a list of contacts and I added a "Group" field and asked to assign all contacts that were being imported to that specific group. Went to the group tab and nothing there I checked one of the contacts profiles to see if the field had been filled in - it hadn't. I manually filled in the field and went back to the groups tab and still nothing until the selected group!

Can anyone help me with this? If you need additional info, please ask. I'm not sure what information is needed to answer the question.

EDIT: I would like to be able to do something like this:

Create Groups A, B and C
Import a set of contacts and send them to Group A
Import another set of contacts and send them to Group B
And so on ...

I would like to be able to go to the Groups Tab and select Group A and see all of my contacts for that group.
