New installation problems

I am a complete novice when it comes to sugar crm. I would most appreciate anyone who can give me some advice or pointer as to what I am doing incorrectly during the installation. I am trying to follow the instructions but am a little confused. I just uploaded files to the web server and now see errors which I am not sure how to proceed. when i proceed to the next screen I get the following screen shot and when I try to do what it says for changing permissions then I just get an all blank screen. Again any help is very appreciated. Thanks for taking time to assist me.

you need to change the permissions on your files AND directories ... see here

Thanks. I will try again. I thought I had them all correct but will attempt again. I thought that might be the problem. If I still get error I will post exact permissions I have set.
