Question New Sugar User - Simple Questions

    Hi!

I have just installed SugarCRM by recommendation of one of our business partners. What we need at the very beginning is the following:

    1) Customer login via web (apart from login for our own employees), where customer(s) can post cases (issues), but they should have no access to anything else.

    2) e-mail notification of these cases to respective e-mail address of specified employee(s)

The logic suggests me the following:
New account - new business partner (e.g. customer's company)
New user - new SugarCRM user login, assigned to specific account (I am right here?)
New user -> Edit tabs - is this some kind of access privileges assignment (I am right here?)

So for customer I should specify only "cases" tab as available, all others are hidden.

Then, I will give this user name/password to my customer, and let him start to post his cases.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s)

    Hi Macguru

    1) There is a project Sugar Portal for Zend Framework which allow non user to login in a SugarCRM installation.
    It is easy to use.

Alternatively you can create a Role which enable access only to Cases and add into this Role the users.

    2) Configuring the SugarCRM through My Account and Admin page it is possible to notify by email users whose had a Case assigned to them.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks a lot for reply! So, my assumption that "New user -> Edit tabs" is an access privilege system is wrong? If so, how to edit access privileges for users? BTW, I do not need non-registered users to post anything.

    NO, it is not wrong.
You can do it this way, but this way the user is not unable to access the module.
If he types on navigation bar the address: index.php?module=Accounts&action=index he can access the Accounts module, even if it is hidden from module tab.

I just tried the suggestion, but these are the limitations:

    1) The new case is assigned to the customer/user rather than a technician.
    2) If the case is assigned to a technician, then the customer/user cannot view the case because they are not the owner.

    Cheers
