Unhappy Newbie question: Adding fields to contacts

    Hello

I'm newbie with Sugar crm so I'm sorry if my question seems too obvious. Here it goes:

In Italy we have to main fiscal codes wich are [PARTITA IVA] only for non physical subjects, like businesses and enterprises, and [CODICE FISCALE] for people, wich is ,again, like a fiscal ID for taxes purporses.
Those two codes are very important for any CRM or similar in Italy because all the receipts and other documents are written based on those two ID codes.

I tried to add these two fields in the contacts section in custom but when i try to add a label it simply doesn't respond. At first glance it "smells" like permissions problems, but I don't want to touch anything since so far sugarcrm has worked perfectly (I installed it two days ago in a Ubuntu 8.04 LAMP server).

Anyone has an idea how to fix this? I already installed language pack IT wich didn't add the needed ID fields.

    Cheers!

Where did you try to add the label. Its not clear exactly what the sequence was and where you ran into a problem. Please step briefly through what you did and then I'll take another shot at trying to figure out what's wrong.

Verify which version of Sugar you have as well.

    thanks Paris

Sugarcrm version is Version 5.1.0b (Build 4905)

Here's how I figured I could solve the problem:

Admin > Studio > Contacts (leftmenu)

In this screen I figured I could edit labels and fields and add one called PIVA and the other CF. Is that possible? how should I procceed? Meanwhile the problem I had looked like it fixed itself, now if I click on a Label I can edit it. Weird...

Could you help me to add these new ID's I need? Will these ID's remain visible in others screens of sugarcrm or everytime I'm going to need those ID I will have to navigate to the "contacts" menu?

    Thanks for your help!

You can build relationships so the numbers show up in other screens as well. In the contacts you can decide wher to show them. There is also a way to create a logic hook to have those numbers set by the system.
The other way to do this would be to create a new custom module. Create a bunch of relationships to the modules you need and have them show up in a subpanel of the various modules.

You could further build a logic hook that retrieves the info from the contacts to set a field somewhere in the Account, Lead, etc....

There are lots of ways to do this. I would suggest playing around with it on a side machine and see what you can accomplish. There are plenty of us out here who will work for a fee to set some of this custom stuff up as well. (icluding me! )

Hope this helps, Also, remember to runt he repair/rebuild after making a bunch of changes. This will eliminate other issues as well.

    Thanks PAris
