Default Newby question: Trouble adding custom fields

    Hello!

Firstly may I apologize if this is a real dumb question and believe me I've tried reading the manual, searching online etc. before wastings folks' time with a forum posting.

All I want to do is add a simple custom drop-down field to the Cases / Detail screen. We'd like to allow people using Sugar Open Source to choose one of our company's products from a pull-down list when they log a customer support case.

As 'admin' I've gone to the Admin section, chosen "Add Custom Field" from Toolbox, configured details about the field in the resulting pop-up and sure enough I can now see it listed in "View Sugar Fields" (also in Toolbox). My question is - how di I get it on to the layout?

In "Edit Layout" I can list the available fields including my newly created one and can pick it up and drop it on top of an _existing_ field's handle on the layout. Fine. Two questions though; what if I want my new field to be in _addition_ to those already on the layout rather than replacing an existing one? And also in Layot screen there seem to be two handles (grey boxes) for every field - one being the lable and one the field itself (eg; "Resolution" and "resolution". How do I edit the label?

This has been driving me mad all morning. I'm sure it's just a compatability issue between me and the Sugar UI although the manual doesn't help much by saying in the custom field section "you can then drag your field to the layout in the usual way". Umm... which is? :-)

    Really grateful for any tips.

    Thanks,

    Steve

While you're editing the layout you can select "add rows" or "add columns" to the layout which adds another table row/column to the layout. Then you can drop the custom field into those areas.

The label is set when you create the custom field, I'm not sure you can edit the label through the UI, you'd have to modify the editview.html directly.

I can not locate an add columns option. I have add panel and add row but not "column" am I missing something?
