Default Nothing Appears in Content Panel

So, at first I thought I had to configure something differently in admin but I think there may be a problem. I have installed sugar successfully and populated it with test data but when I click home after login I just the the shortcut menu on the left. Nothing appears in the content pane. I watch a couple demos and tutuorials and it seems that there should be a whole bunch of things there. So one of two things is going on here, I am a moron and should be flamed or I did something wrong. Either way, any help is appreciated.

    Hi

I might be completely off target, but doesn't Sugar expect to be installed within
a parent folder named 'sugarcrm' ?

Give 777 permissions to your cache folder and its files & folders.
