Lightbulb out out for current email campaign only

    Hi folks,

If I create a newsletter campaign and the contact click on the opt out link it will automatically go to the unsubscripted list and no longer receive emails for that campaign.

Can I make this for email campaigns? By default when some contact click on the out out link it is opted out from all campaigns.

    I'm using SugarCE 5.2.0e
    Thanks

    Hello zaska,

when a person clicks the opt out link for a newsletter campaign, then they are only opted out from that newsletter subscription.

when a person clicks the opt out link for an email campaign, then they are opted out from all email campaigns.

if you want to have them receive the campaign email, then you will need to uncheck the 'opt out' checkbox for that person's email address

This is not my observation. What seems to occur is that the user is removed from the target list and hence they are opted out of all newsletters that use the target list in question. If you go to a contact and manage their subscriptions you are effectively maintaining their inclusion in target lists (I have not examined leads or targets).

I was going to say that I would be very surprised if this operates any differently to newsletters, but after spending a good number of hours trying to figure this stuff out I don't think anything would come as a surprise.

See now here is the problem - there are just too many seemingly equivalent options the relationship between which is not made clear anywhere that I can find.

It seems that suppression lists (all variations of) override regular target lists (though oddly supposedly suppressed items appear in the email queue, but they don't appear to be sent out after that). My guess is that an opt out on a contact would operate in a similar fashion. The confusing thing about newsletter campaigns is that on the subscriptions tab of the wizard only provides for three target lists to be specified - subscription, "unsubscription" and test. Just why it is called an unsubscription list is totally beyond me since it is not used when someone unsubscribes.

I just watched the Sugar Professional webcast on email campaigns which I must say did nothing to address these unknowns - in fact if anything the approach taken in the webcast adds further confusion.

From a newsletter perspective I think you could achieve the desired goal of unsubscribing from just the current campaign by ensuring that a different target list is maintained for each campaign. I would be hoping the same thing can be achieved for email campaigns (but you should confirming this yourself).

    Good luck,

    Scott
