Default Performance of 4.5 compared to 4.2.1

Do you guys look much at the performance of your software in different kinds of installations?

We installed Sugar for it's ability to run remotely. Our idea was to support a single salesperson with the idea that assistants could get access to the database for entering new leads, marketing campaign, etc, as could partners as the business grows.

Obviously, we have had to do customization and simplification, but we knew that going in.
I have also had a few complaints about performance, but not too bad once people got used to the fact that a web-application is, well, a web application.

What vexes me right now is that 4.21 -> 4.5 seems to have jumped off a cliff when we access our database at DSL speeds, which is a large part of the use. It looks like interactions between the client and server have skyrocketed.

Do you ever test on installations like this? Offer performance tips for remote users, etc?

I can't justify 4.5 the way it's working right now, at least not at DSL speeds.

dinotrac, what are the relative server response times between the two versions? Did anything else change? Have you had an opportunity to run with the slow query flag set (see our Wiki)?

Additional data is needed in order to diagnose your performance issues.

Let me do more looking into this.

I may just be way too cranky and way too Starbucks'd after fighting an installation onto a new server -- BTW -- anybody considering Sugar MUST give proper value to the forums.

A little more poking around has me scratching my head.
I brought up a session with Opera, and it seems fine.
Maybe it's a Firefox thing, maybe it's a caching thing.
Think I must try a couple of more systems and a couple of more browsers to see if I can understand what's happening.

I'll let you know if continued tests show a problem worth noting.
Maybe I need to go looking for all the performance tips I can find!

PS - Thanks for the quick notice

I too have noticed a huge slug in the system. I don't have time right now to post a proper thread with all the info, but our server is completely tweaked and humming in our data center with most of the resources available to the web and database.
