Default Cache Permissions problem, or Windows Partition Problem?

I have SugarCRM open source up and running (WAMP) but all of the functionality that requires write access to the cache directory (graphs, upload, rss) is not working. I have enabled full access on all files and folders.

However, I think that the problem is because I have my Apache installed on C:/, but the web server document root is set to D:/. (our IT wish this to be the way)

Can this be overcome through changing the config.php file? I've tried various permutations of "D:/sugarcrm/cache/" but to no avail.

    Help would be much appreciated!!

BTW - I have Sugar installed at home, on my PC, and it all works fine (but it all runs off C:/
