    Default Permissions question

    Hi

I am having a few problems that I am convinced are permissions related but I want to proove it before I try to work out where the permissions aren't quite correct.

Would there being any diverse effect (besides the obvious security issues) to changing the permissions to the whole sugar installation directory to 777?

    No.

Whenever I run into permissions issues, I usually do the same then once everything is operating, I start applying restrictions.

The biggest concern would be if your Sugar instance faces the outside world and someone were to hack it to gain access through Apache or something like that. Then again, were that to happen, there are probably bigger issues to deal with.

    Hi

You can use chown as an alternate to chmod.

This looks more like an issue with PHP not functioning correctly or not enabled for the directory in question.

Try the phpinfo() tip referenced here: http://cheleguanaco.blogspot.com/200...lified_19.html

Does anyone know what the default permissions are? I have 644 for files, and 755 for directories, is that correct?

    I did

On the server the log says...

[Thu Jul 16 14:34:55 2009] [error] [client 86.133.72.248] SoftException in Application.cpp:252: File "/home/tatty27/public_html/sugar/index.php" is writeable by group

Does this imply that the permissions are wrong on the index.php?

    Thanks
